  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

De Bruyne had a concrete offer from Chiacgo Fire, while he was also linked with a move to Liverpool in the Premier League. He was disappointed his City deal had not been extended, saying in April: "Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I'm showing but I understand that clubs have to make decisions. Obviously, I was a bit surprised but I have to accept it."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

De Bruyne will be linking up with former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, who was named Serie A MVP in his first season in the division. McTominay scored an acrobatic opener in Napoli's 2-0 win over Cagliari that sealed the league title.
