Jurgen Klopp's eye-watering Red Bull salary revealed as ex-Liverpool boss secures key verbal agreement in new deal

Klopp was controversially appointed as Red Bull's Global Head of Soccer this week, with his job set to begin in January 2025. The German coach raised eyebrows with his decision, however Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed the details behind Klopp's new job, including the financial package which would see the former Dortmund boss net between €10 million and €12m (£8.3m/£10m) annually.

There is also a verbal agreement which allows Klopp to depart for any concrete offer he receives, although he is only believed to be holding out for an opportunity to manage the German national side and has no desire to return to coaching otherwise.

The news of Klopp's job came as a huge shock to fans due to Red Bull's controversial history across German football, having endured criticism for their multi-club system and their circumvention of the '50+1' rule.

Klopp himself had previously stated his disapproval of the model, highlighting why some Dortmund fans have claimed their former manager is 'dead' to them.

Klopp's decision has generated controversy from a host of figures including one of his former players at Dortmund.

Kevin Grosskreutz said: "I woke up, I had 30 messages on my phone and I thought: What happened? I thought I was dreaming, then I hoped it was fake news. Two hours later it was official. It was pretty shocking and sad. Somehow it hasn't really sunk in yet.

"I don't think anyone was expecting it. It's very, very strange and I can't really comprehend it yet. It's like shock! Nevertheless, he's a friend of mine and I owe him a lot. And I will always be grateful to him. As a football fan, I think it sucks, to put it bluntly! But as a friend, you have to accept decisions being made. When we meet, I'll still tell him personally that I think it's sh*t that he does something like that!”

Klopp's remit does not start until January 2025 and he admitted in his announcement that he felt the role was the "perfect" platform for him to continue to learn about the game and see what is "useful" in football.

The 57-year-old also revealed that he would first be going on holiday before taking over his new job in the winter.
