Disaster for JJ Watt & Burnley as Clarets suffer heartbreaking relegation from Premier League - with NFL legend watching on with his son

The damning news comes in the first full season since NFL legend J.J. Watt purchased a minority share in the Clarets. Vincent Kompany's side needed a victory at Spurs to stand any chance of survival but could not hold on to the 25th-minute lead given to them by Jacob Bruun Larsen. Pedro Porro equalised seven minutes later, before Micky van de Ven secured the win with a brilliant 82nd-minute strike. Watt and his son watched on from home as relegation was mathematically confirmed.

Burnley were heavily tipped to drop back down to the second tier before the start of the season and they have eventually succumbed to the dreaded drop. The biggest issue for the Clarets throughout the campaign has been their dire home form. Kompany's outfit have picked up just 10 points at Turf Moor, the joint-lowest total in the division alongside fellow relegation sufferers Sheffield United.

Watt is actually a fan of Chelsea but chose to become a co-owner of Burnley alongside his wife on May 1, 2023. He retired from the NFL following the conclusion of the 2022 season, when he represented the Arizona Cardinals.

Burnley's latest league defeat, their 23rd in 37 matches, leaves them on 25 points and four behind Nottingham Forest in 17th with only a game left to play. The two sides meet on the final day of the season but it will merely be a case of salvaging pride for Kompany's men at Turf Moor.
