Hansi Flick to Barcelona?! Joan Laporta 'pushing' for ex-Bayern & Germany boss to replace Xavi at the end of the season

Barca are looking for a new coach for next season after Xavi announced on Saturday that he will step down once the current campaign comes to an end. Flick is already seen as one of the main contenders to take his place, as Bild Sport reports that Blaugrana president Joan Laporta is "pushing" for the out-of-work coach to get the job. Flick, meanwhile, is ready to take on another job and is open to working as a head coach in a foreign league for the first time in his career.

Laporta has long been interested in bringing the 58-year-old to Camp Nou as Christian Falk also reports that he had a video call with Flick in an attempt to lure him in 2021. Flick turned the post down, though, and Xavi was given the job.

Flick is not the only German to be touted as a possible replacement for Xavi. The other big name to be linked with the reigning La Liga champions is current Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel, who spoke of his desire to work in Spain after Xavi confirmed his departure.

Laporta and the Barca board will continue to weigh up their options but Flick could be set for a return to football after his sacking as Germany coach in 2023. In the meantime, the Catalan team will hope to make this season a success by winning the Champions League and finishing high up the Spanish league table.
