Erling Haaland to Saudi Arabia?! Man City star tipped to make sensational switch to the Middle East in the future - but Premier League title winner claims red-hot striker would reject £200m contract now

Norwegian frontman Haaland has been a revelation for City since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. He helped to deliver a historic Treble triumph in his debut campaign and has collected Golden Boots in both of his seasons in Manchester.

Haaland has reached 100 goals in total for City, through just 105 appearances, and is one of the most sought-after talents in world football. Interest from the Middle East – where the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are already plying their trade – would come as no surprise.

Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Emmanuel Petit has told TV Kampen of why a Saudi Pro League switch will not happen any time soon. The World Cup-winning Frenchman has said: “I think one day we could end up seeing Erling Haaland in Saudi Arabia, depending on how they develop. But because Haaland can’t write his name into the history books with his nation, he’ll have to do it all at club level and he will concentrate on that for a very long time.

“If he considers going to Saudi, it won’t be down to money. I think his ambition is more than money and it’s not like he isn’t earning well at City. He wants to break records in every game and even if Saudi offered £200 million ($267m) he’d refuse to go unless it’s towards the end of his career when I think he might end up out there.”

Haaland is already working on a lucrative deal in Manchester, with there talk of those terms being extended. He has been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, but appears to be happy in England for now as City wait to discover whether they will face punishment in a long-running, 115-charge Financial Fair Play (FFP) case.
