Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly meets with Saudi Pro League transfer chief as Blues eye summer clearout to ease financial concerns

Boehly has recently taken in a trip to Saudi Arabia where he took time out to meet with Emenalo, according to the Daily Mail. The meeting comes amid speculation Chelsea must sanction £100 million ($128m) worth of player sales this summer to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules. Chelsea offloaded a number of players to the Saudi Pro League last summer, waving goodbye to Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and N'Golo Kante.

The Blues have already announced losses of £90.1m ($115m) in the 12-month period up to June 30, 2023 after spending heavily since Boehly arrived at the club. A summer clearout therefore looks increasingly likely in a bid to avoid sanctions for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play rules and to trim a bloated squad. Conor Gallagher has been linked with an exit, as he could bring a healthy profit as an academy graduate, while loanees such as Romelu Lukaku, Lewis Hall, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja, and Trevoh Chalobah may all move on.

Chelsea have spent over £1 billion on players since Boehly bought the club in 2022. The club's record signing is midfielder Moises Caicedo who signed for £115m ($146m) from Brighton in August 2023.

Chelsea have endured a miserable campaign on the pitch so far under Mauricio Pochettino, despite the huge investment in the squad, but can take a major step towards a trophy on Saturday when they take on Leicester in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge.
