The blows keep coming for Chelsea! Extent of Ben Chilwell's hamstring injury revealed with Blues vice-captain's absence adding to Mauricio Pochettino's selection woes

The 26-year-old defender limped off towards the end of a 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Brighton on Wednesday. The England international is due to undergo scans on Friday, with it expected that he will be ruled out for some time.

Standard Sport claims that Chilwell will be missing for at least four weeks – taking him through the next international break. He is unlikely to be selected by the Three Lions as a result for their upcoming friendly against Australia and a Euro 2024 qualifying clash with Italy.

Chilwell has now suffered three hamstring injuries since the start of the 2022-23 campaign, with muscular issues becoming a serious source of concern at Stamford Bridge. The experienced full-back is set to sit out Premier League games against Fulham and Burnley heading into the October international break.

Marc Cucurella and Ian Maatsen are the candidates to cover for Chilwell during his injury-enforced absence, with Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino now without nine players as the fitness problems continue to stack up in west London.
