'We imagined it a little differently' - Two Bayern directors give damning verdict on Vincent Kompany's start in charge of German giants

The Bundesliga giants kicked off their pre-season on a disappointing note as they managed a 1-1 draw against German fourth-division side Duren in their first friendly game on Sunday. While several top stars are yet to join the squad including England captain Harry Kane, the team's performance against the minnows failed to impress Bayern officials.

After the club's first friendly clash, sporting directors Christoph Freund and Max Eberl assessed the team's overall performance. While Freund was more direct in his criticism of new manager Kompany, Eberl sounded much more lenient in his analysis.

Speaking to Bayern's media channel, Freund said, "We imagined it a little differently. We want to play better football and have more fun. We had a hard time doing that.

Eberl, on the other hand, told Sky Germany, "Ideas can be seen, but perhaps the implementation has not been so successful. At the beginning, you start to bring in a bit of structure. That is the first task and then you want to find solutions. That will take some time."

The German giants will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on local Bavarian club Rottach-Egern. The club will miss the service of new signing Hiroki Ito who has been sidelined with a long-term foot injury.
