'I throw them all in a big bag of sh*t!' - Eric Cantona defends Sir Alex Ferguson after INEOS rip up his Man Utd contract as club legend condemns 'totally scandalous' decision

Sir Alex has seen his multi-million pound contract to act as the club's global ambassador ripped up this week by Manchester United part-owners INEOS as part of a continued cost-cutting drive at the club. The Scot is said to have stepped down from his role "amicably" and will retain a non-executive director position at Old Trafford.

United's decision to cut Sir Alex from their payroll has been met with anger by some sections of the Manchester United support, who have been upset at the way INEOS have treated a man who won a host of titles including 13 league titles and two Champions League crowns with the Red Devils. Cantona, who was brought to the club by the Scot and acted as a catalyst for United's success under Sir Alex, has slammed the decision by United's owners.

Cantona posted on Instagram: "Sir Alex Ferguson should be able to do anything he wants at the club until the day he dies. Such a lack of respect. It’s totally scandalous. Sir Alex Ferguson will be my boss forever! And I throw them all in a big bag of sh*t!”

The move is the latest in a line of cost-cutting measures implemented by INEOS. The club have also announced plans to axe 250 jobs and implemented other money-saving cuts after a widespread financial review.

Manchester United have still managed to spend heavily in the transfer market despite the cost-cuts. Erik ten Hag splashed out over £200 million on new players in the summer but has seen his side make a poor start to the season. The Red Devils return to action after the international break against Brentford where another disappointing result will pile more pressure on the Dutchman.
