Antony assault allegations set to scupper Man Utd's chances of selling £85m outcast in summer transfer window

United see the 24-year-old as a sellable asset after signing him in a £85m ($109m) deal from Ajax in 2022. Antony has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford and could be offloaded in the summer, but The Telegraph says any possible deal would be in danger of falling apart because of investigations in Brazil and England.

Antony's former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin has accused the Brazil international of assault and Greater Manchester Police and Sao Paulo Civil Police are looking into the claims. Antony has strenuously denied the accusations.

Antony has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, but has started just 11 of the 22 Premier League matches in which he has featured. The winger has only registered one goal and an assist - both in the 4-2 win against fourth-tier team Newport County in the FA Cup. It was reported last month that the Red Devils are prepared to sell him at a significant loss in the summer transfer window.

Antony and United will await news on the status of the police investigations into the winger. The Telegraph adds that United will have an easier time selling him if he is either cleared or the investigations are dropped. Whether or not under-fire head coach Erik ten Hag remains at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season could also have an impact on Antony's future.
