Mamelodi Sundowns and Uzoenyi agree to terminate contract

Reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns have agreed to terminate former Nigeria international Ejike Uzoenyi's contract.

Last week, it was reported that Uzoenyi had asked the world football governing body, Fifa, to intervene.

The midfielder had battled for regular game time at the Chloorkop-based side since joining them from Nigerian side Enugu Rangers in 2014.

Uzoenyi's agent, Mohammed Lawal announced on his official Twitter account that the player had officially parted ways with Sundowns.

"We finally reached a mutual agreement to terminate Uzoenyi's contract with Sundowns after two-and-a-half years," Lawal said.

The agent added that he's confident that the 24-year-old midfielder will soon find a new club, where he will get some game time.

"We are now focusing on the options before us and very soon Ejike will be back in the field doing what he loves most - playing football," he added.

Uzoenyi, who was once on the books of French side Rennes, only made six league appearances for Sundowns during his two-and-a-half year stint with the club.

The left-footed player trained with Sundowns' rivals SuperSport United last year, but he reportedly failed to agree personal terms with Matsatsantsa despite impressing their technical team.
