William Ruto vows to intervene and have Kenyan coach Sebastien Migne paid salary

Deputy President William Ruto has vowed to intervene and make sure that Kenyan coach Sebastien Migne is paid his accrued salary.

The Frenchman signed a two-year contract to take over as Harambee Stars coach following the exit of Paul Put but is yet to be paid salary accruing to four months. A seemingly heartbroken Migne took the initiative to approach Ruto on his welfare after he visited the team’s training camp on Friday.

After pulling the Deputy President aside, Migne is said to have revealed that his family was suffering because he was broke. Ruto then immediately summoned Sports Cabinet PS Kirimi Kaberia to confirm if the coach was saying the truth.

Moments later, Ruto was seen assuring Migne that the issue will be sorted out. “The Deputy President promised Migne that the issue will be sorted out as soon as possible. He was shocked to learn that the coach has not been receiving salaries for close to three months now,” a source told Goal at Kasarani.

The Deputy President also promised the team Sh50m bonus should they edge past Ethiopia on Sunday. Stars will need a win against the Walya Antelopes to keep alive their dream of making it to the 2019 Afcon finals to be staged in Cameroon, should Fifa uphold the suspension of Sierra Leone.

The government also scrapped the gate charges while Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered 150 buses to ferry fans to the match venue. Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga also promised to donate a further 80 buses as more goodies continue to trickle in, for both fans and players.

Kenya are top of the group with four points, same as Ethiopia while Ghana and Sierra Leone are tied on three points.
