The Gunners face their first significant test in an unbeaten run stretching back to August

Arsenal have been one of the surprise teams of the English Premier League season with many expecting the transition from Arsene Wenger to new coach Unai Emery to take time.

But the Gunners have won seven of their last eight league games and sit in fourth position only four points off leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.

However the visit of Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday (AEDT) promises to provide a marker of Arsenal's progress under their Spanish tactician.

Fired on by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyeng's seven goals and four strikes from Alexandre Lacazette, the Gunners have been impressive in attack albeit looking slightly shaky at the back.

Of all the teams in the top half, only Manchester United (17) and Everton (14) have conceded more than the 13 nestled in the back of Arsenal's net.

A draw against Crystal Palace last weekend stopped Arsenal's run of 11 straight wins in all competitions - with their previous slip ups coming in the form of league defeats against Chelsea and Manchester City

With both Arsenal and Liverpool in the habit of free scoring, this fixture promises to be full of entertainment as the last five league games between the sides producing 27 goals at an average of 5.4 a match.

The Reds have won their last three matches following a four-game winless run that included defeats against Chelsea and Napoli.

While Mohamed Salah hasn't yet produced the form that saw him score an incredible 32 Premier League goals last season, the Egyptian has still chipped in with five and will be looking to make his mark in a big match.

Senegalese striker Sadio Mane has stepped up this season with six league goals so far and will need close attention from the Arsenal defence.

Despite being away from home, Liverpool can't afford to slip up with the likelihood fellow title contenders Manchester City are not going to drop many points this season.
