The France international left the London Stadium under a cloud in January 2017, but he has been offered back to the Hammers in the summer window

Dimitri Payet has been offered back to West Ham, Goal can confirm, with the Premier League outfit considering re-signing a player they parted with in acrimonious circumstances 18 months ago.

Having grown disillusioned with life at the London Stadium after just one full season in England, the France international forced an exit in January 2017 .

Former club Marseille were happy to throw open their doors once more, with West Ham doubling their money on a highly-rated playmaker.

They acquired him for £10.7 million ($14m) in 2016 and offloaded him for £25m ($33m).

Payet has enjoyed a productive spell back in his homeland, netting 15 times in 46 appearances.

He also provided 20 assists across all competitions last season as Marseille finished fourth in Ligue 1 and reached the Europa League final .

It is understood that those efforts have bumped up his asking price, with West Ham set to have to pay more than they received for Payet in order to bring him onto their books for a second time.

They are, however, giving thought to sanctioning a big-money deal after seeing the path cleared for them by the 31-year-old forward’s representatives.

Manuel Pellegrini is eager to find added creativity, with the former Manchester City boss in the process of tweaking a squad inherited from David Moyes.

Payet ticks the right boxes, with his ability to trouble Premier League defences having been showcased in a 2015-16 campaign which made him a cult hero in east London.

It could be that he forms part of an influx of midfield talent at West Ham this summer, with other targets being chased down.

Goal revealed on Thursday that England international Jack Wilshere was set to undergo a medical with the Hammers after reaching the end of his contract Arsenal.

Any further arrivals with bolster a squad which Pellegrini has already added to across his backline, with goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and defensive duo Ryan Fredericks and Issa Diop now on board .
