VIDEO: A lucky bounce helps Ricketts score the winner for Toronto FC

The substitute scored two late goals — including the 89th-minute winner — to lead his side to an impressive come-from-behind victory in Columbus

Tosaint Ricketts didn’t start the night for Toronto FC, but he certainly finished it off in style, scoring a pair of late goals to give his side a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew.

In a game where Toronto was missing star Sebastian Giovinco and went down early on the road, Ricketts would play the unlikely hero, combining with Raheem Edwards and Victor Vazquez to steal three points for the visitors.

Federico Higuain put the Crew up 1-0 in the 28th minute on a penalty after Ola Kamara was brought down in the area. Jozy Altidore had an opportunity to equalize from the spot later in the half, but his effort was saved by Zack Steffen.

Ricketts would also enter the game in the first half, for Chris Mavinga, but it would be the final 10 minutes when the attacker would really make his presence felt.

In the 81st minute, Vazquez found Edwards out on the right side of the area. Edwards delivered a solid cross, which Ricketts headed home for the equalizer.

Then Ricketts did one better as he scored the winner in the 89th minute with the same trio combining once again. This time when Edwards hit a low cross from the left side into the area, Vazquez flicked it on and Ricketts slammed it home to give Toronto the 2-1 lead.

The win is Toronto’s fifth straight in MLS and leaves the team alone in first place in the Eastern Conference with 22 points.
