Kieran Trippier has withdrawn from England's squad for the upcoming games against USA and Croatia.

The Tottenham right-back sustained a groin injury during Spurs' 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend, and was forced off after just 24 minutes, to be replaced by Serge Aurier.

And he has now been forced to pull out of the selection for the friendly against USA and the Nations League encounter with Croatia.

Trippier initially linked up with the squad, but was assessed by medical staff and told to report back to his club to recover.

The former Burnley defender enjoyed a stunning 2018 World Cup, where he emerged as England's first-choice right-back.

Trippier played in six of the Three Lions' games in Russia, and scored a stunning free-kick in the semi-final against Croatia.

Of course, England were defeated by the eventual runners-up, who went on to lose 4-2 to France in the final, while Gareth Southgate's side fell to a 2-0 loss to Belgium in the third-place play-off.

Since the tournament, Trippier has made 14 appearances in all competitions, and even scored in the 3-1 victory over Fulham in August.

Danny Welbeck has also withdrawn from the England squad after breaking his ankle during Arsenal's Europa League draw with Sporting Lisbon.

The Gunners forward has undergone surgery on the issue, and Unai Emery has confirmed that he faces an extended period on the sidelines.

"Danny's injury is big," Emery told reporters. "We spoke with him yesterday and today.

"We support him. I think he will not be with us for a long time."

England's game against the USA will feature Wayne Rooney for the first time since his international retirement in 2017.
