St. Anthony High and Wiyeta win to advance to semi-finals

The second day of Copa Coca-Cola finals football had St. Anthony High School getting a well-deserved win after toiling hard against Kinondo High School.

The first half was a competitive duel in midfield with both teams trying their best to out-maneuver the other. Ansor Shamon from St. Anthony High School broke the deadlock in the 54th minute.

Kinondo High School levelled in the 57th minute with Kombo Hassan scoring from the penalty spot after Christopher Raila from St. Anthony High School handled the ball in the penalty area.

St. Anthony High School pressed for the second goal and were lucky in the 69th minute after Cedric Muchina, captain of the team headed the second and winning goal of the match. The match ended 2-1 in favor of the Rift Valley regional champions, who have since qualified to the semis in Group B.

In the second match in Group B, Upper Hill High School won by a solitary goal against Olbolsat Secondary School. Upper Hill High School will be hoping to replicate their regional success story to the national finals.

There were also high scoring matches in the day. Sabunley High School thrashed St. Cyprian High School four goals to nil with Husni Bin Bulle scoring all four goals. He is the leading top scorer garnering for the top scorers award in the tournament. Another match had St. Peter’s Mumias also thrashing Riyabu Secondary School four goals to nil.

In the girls’ matches, Moi Girls Nangili played against Tar Tar girls with Noel Oruko from Moi Girls scoring the solitary goal in the match. It was the first time the girls were competing in the national finals in the school’s history and have since put out their best to make a mark in their first games.

In another match, Waa Girls played against Materdel Girls. The Coastal champions thrashed the girls from the Easter Region 3-1 to ensure their campaign for the national title is on course.
