Saturday's PSL Joint Preview: Platinum Stars welcome rejuvenated Polokwane City, Maritzburg United host wounded Cape Town City

Cape Town City, Free State Stars and Martizburg United will be looking to cement their places in the top eight with wins on Saturday.

Maritzburg, who lost 2-1 away to Bidvest Wits in midweek, will host City at the Harry Gwala Stadium. Kick-off is at 20h15.

The Team of Choice's defeat to Wits ended their four-match unbeaten run in the league.

The Citizens suffered their fourth defeat in five league games when they lost 1-0 away to Lamontville Golden Arrows in midweek.

Maritzburg are placed fourth on the league standings - four points above sixth-placed City with five games before the end of the season.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and City have met three times since 2016. The Team of Choice have won two games compared to Citizens' one.

Maritzburg beat City 4-2 in the first round in a match which was played in Cape Town last December.

Meanwhile, Arrows are expected to host a wounded Free State Stars side at the Princess Magogo Stadium. Kick-off is at 15h30.

Abafana Bes'thende's win over City ended their two-match winless streak in the league and they are now placed 11th on the table - six points above the relegation zone.

On the other hand, fifth-placed Ea Lla Koto suffered their second successive defeat when they lost 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs at home in midweek.

In head-to-head stats, Stars and Arrows have clashed 25 times in the league since 2000/01 season.

Ea Lla Koto have won 10 matches compared to Abafana Bes'thende's seven. The two teams have drawn eight times. Stars secured a 2-1 home win over Arrows last December.

Lastly, relegation-threatened Platinum Stars will be keen to end their long winless run when they host Polokwane City at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. Kick-off is at 20h15.

Dikwena are coming off a goalless home draw with Baroka in midweek, while Rise and Shine stunned SuperSport United 1-0 at home on Wednesday.

Stars, who last won a league game in December 2017, are placed 16th-placed on the log - six points behind 15th-placed Ajax Cape Town.

On the other hand, Polokwane City are placed 12th on the table - six points above the relegation play-off spot.

In head-to-head stats, Dikwena and Polokwane have met nine times since the 2013/14 season. 

Dikwena and Rise and Shine have recorded four wins each, while the other match ended in a draw.

Stars secured a 1-0 away win over Polokwane in the first round.
