NFD Week 14 Review: Jomo Cosmos keep up the pressure on the leaders

CAPE TOWN ALL STARS vs. UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA

AmaTuks bounced back on Friday night after beating Cape Town All Stars 2-1 at Parow Park, Cape Town. The win sees AmaTuks being four points behind log leaders, Highlands Park through goals from Thabo Moseki and Grant Bruchhausen which gives them a two point lead over Mbombela United.

MTHATHA BUCKS vs. HIGHLANDS PARK

Highlands Park earned an impressive 3-1 victory at Duncan Lechesa’s Mthatha Bucks which maintained their charge at the top of the standings which sees them jump to 29 points. The loss further condemns Bucks to the relegation obscurity even more. Goals for Highlands Park came courtesy of Mothobi Mvala, Peter Shalulile and Lindokuhle Mbatha.

BLACK LEOPARDS vs. WITBANK SPURS

Black Leopards played to another draw when they drew 0-0 against Witbank Spurs at Thohoyandou Stadium which saw the hosts extend their unbeaten run.

STELLENBOSCH FC vs. MBOMBELA UNITED

Promotion hopefuls, Stellenbosch FC and Mbombela United succumbed to a goalless draw at Parow Park, Cape Town. The draw can be seen as a missed chance for both these teams to heap some pressure on the log leaders.

REAL KINGS vs. TTM FC

TTM FC will prove to be a tough nut to crack as they have proven in recent times, so this match will be hard to predict. Real Kings FC gave TTM a 5-1 thumping in Pinetown which saw the victors entering the top six. The goals came thanks to Nkosingiphile Phewa’s hat-trick and Phumelele Bhengu’s brace which impressed a vibrant home crowd.

SUPER EAGLES vs. RICHARDS BAY

Richards Bay succumbed to their third consecutive defeat after Super Eagles’ Mokoena Modibedi scored the only goal of the game at Goble Park. The loss for the away side pushed the relegation candidates towards the trap door.

JOMO COSMOS vs. ROYAL EAGLES

Ezenkosi beat hapless Royal Eagles side 2-1 at Vosloorus Stadium, Johannesburg on Sunday. The home side’s goals were from Mxolisi Machuphu and Onassis Mntambo sees Jomo Cosmos remain in second place and putting more pressure on the log leaders, Highlands Park.

UBUNTU CT FC vs. UTHONGATHI FC

Ubuntu FC drew 1-1 against Uthongathi FC at Parow Park. The away side’s goal came from the veteran, Diyo Sibisi but the hosts held them back when Waseem Isaacs equalized. The draw sees Ubuntu FC move up from the bottom of the table via goal difference.
