Last season's playoff hero has signed with the club after initially joining on loan in 2016.

The Montreal Impact have announced the signing of striker Matteo Mancosu to a two-year deal with the club.

The 32-year-old, who joined Montreal in July 2016 on loan from Italian club Bologna FC, was signed using targeted allocation money.

“We are very happy to have finalized this agreement with Matteo and to be able to count on his services for the next two years,” Impact technical director Adam Braz said in a club release Thursday.

“He was able to integrate well with the group upon his arrival last year and demonstrated his qualities on the field during the latter part of the season."

Mancosu scored three goals and added four assists in 15 regular season games after joining Montreal, relegating Didier Drogba to a role on the bench.

The Italian striker stepped his game up to a new level in the postseason, tallying four goals and two assists in just five games as the Impact eventually fell to Toronto FC in the Eastern Conference final.
