Man Utd star Pogba wanted to be just like Beckham

Paul Pogba has revealed that Manchester United legend David Beckham inspired him as a youngster, off the field as well as on it.

Having graduated out of the Old Trafford academy system alongside the famed Class of 92, it did not take long for a starry-eyed youngster to announce himself on a global stage.

Beckham’s exploits for United’s helped him to build up a loyal fan base, with countless honours collected as part of a dominant side managed by the iconic Sir Alex Ferguson.

The former England captain was, however, as much of a brand away from the football pitch as he was a star turn on it, with his global appeal stretching to ever corner of the world.

Pogba was among those to place Beckham on a pedestal growing up in France, with there a desire on his part to tread a similar path.

He has achieved that goal, with the 24-year-old back with the Red Devils as an £89 million asset having previously burst out of their youth team set-up.

Pogba is now the one providing inspiration for the stars of tomorrow, but he is prepared to admit that he was once a Beckham wannabe.

Not only is Pogba now dominating the same midfield that Beckham once graced for United, he also wears the same brand of boots.

He is one of the star turns in the adidas talent pool, with the footwear that he was once so desperate to get his hands on in order to be like his heroes now freely available to him.
