Lucas Moura: Spurs fighting for titles even without spending & Kane in world's top three strikers

Tottenham winger Lucas Moura has praised Harry Kane as one of the top three strikers in world football and told  DAZN and  Goal  that the team are exceeding expectations without spending this season.

Spurs are sitting third in the Premier League after 26 matches, five points behind leaders Manchester City, who have played a game more.

Mauricio Pochettino's men are also still in the hunt for the Champions League, with a first leg last-16 clash against Borussia Dortmund to look forward to on Wednesday .

What makes Tottenham's 2018-19 campaign to date all the more impressive is the fact that the club neglected to bring in any new players during the last two transfer windows.

Pochettino has maximised the output of his current squad and despite fans complaining that more money should be spent on reinforcements, Lucas believes the team are still overachieving.

"The fans always want the club to buy new players," he told DAZN  and  Goal . "Sometimes, when we don’t win, they think it’s because of a lack of spending. Tottenham has a philosophy that's a bit different to other clubs, and that doesn’t stop us from fighting for titles.

"We have a very strong and connected group that always finishes in the top four of Premier League, which is very hard. We are always competing in the Champions League, always reaching the knockout rounds."

Spurs have had to make do without star striker Kane since January 13 , after he sustained an ankle injury against Manchester United.

The England centre-forward has enjoyed another stellar year at club level, scoring 14 goals in 22 Premier League matches, and Lucas went on to describe him as one of the best in the business.

"Look, I would say he is in the top three [strikers in the world]," he added. "He has so much quality, it's impressive because of his age, he’s still young. He scores a lot, has technique, a lot of power, a good sense of positioning... He’s a complete forward and a great striker."

Lucas also discussed why he initially decided to sign for Tottenham from Paris Saint Germain, revealing that it was always his dream to play to play in English football's top tier.

The Brazil international has contributed eight goals in 30 games across all competitions this term and emerged as a key member of Pochettino's squad.

"Two things helped me decide to sign for Tottenham," Moura continued. "The main thing was that I was not playing, sometimes not even in the squad.

"Besides that, I felt it was time to move on. I learned a lot in the five years at PSG, achieved many things, made great friends, but it was time to look for new challenges. The Premier League has always been a great goal, a big dream.

"I am very happy at the moment. Playing in England has been a really good experience. Representing a great club, playing in the Champions League. Everything has been very nice.
