Injured Krul out for rest of the season

The Netherlands shot-stopper will be sidelined for the remainder of 2015-16 after picking up the knee injury whilst on international duty this weekend

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has been sidelined for the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

The Netherlands No.1 was withdrawn from action with nine minutes to play in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Kazakhstan on Saturday and scans have since revealed the severity of the injury to his right knee.

Newcastle will be forced to turn to third-choice Rob Elliot for their upcoming clash with Norwich, with back-up keeper Karl Darlow already sidelined wih an ankle injury.

A statement on the club's official website read: 'Krul will now return to Tyneside for further treatment and rehabilitation and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.'

Youngter Freddie Woodman has also been recalled from his loan spell at Crawley Town following Krul's injury and is expected to be on the bench for the meeting at St. James' Park next Sunday.
