'I'm convinced his future is at Arsenal' - Wenger reveals positive Wilshere contract talks

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed positive contract talks with midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The England international - who has enjoyed a campaign relatively free of injury - has a deal that runs out at the end of the season, but talks having previously stalled over wages.

That has led to Juventus and Everton being linked with his signature, but his departing manager is hopeful that he will remain at the Emirates Stadium.

"It looks positive for the club," he told a press conference. "I am not involved in negotiations. But I’m still in touch with Jack if he wants my advice.

"I am convinced, like I was always, that his future is here. It was always my wish and I think it will happen, yes.”

Wilshere is one of two senior Arsenal players whose futures remain up in the air, with Santi Cazorla also currently free to leave this summer.

The Spaniard has not played for the first team since October 2016 but has stepped up his recovery from an ankle injury that almost led to his right foot being amputated.

And though Wenger did not offer any update on his future, he does not foresee Cazorla making his return to playing action before the season is out.

“It’s a shame. I brought him here and I love the player and the person.

"He’s physically working very hard but medically it is too much of a risk to rush him back. He has worked for such a long time, it would be stupid to destroy it in one game."
