Burundian defender Omaru Moussa wants to emulate Karim Nizigiyimana of Gor Mahia

Omaru Moussa is looking forward to a better season as the Burundian prepares to settle down with Sofapaka in his second season.

Omaru joined the former KPL champions from the Rwandan Premier League and his splendid display saw him earn a call-up to the Burundi national team.

The former Bugesera FC defender says his immediate target is to guide Sofapaka to their second league title; tough the long-term dream, just like any other players is to move to a better league.

But before that, Omaru, who was capped seven times with the Burundi U-20 team wants to become the second Burundian after Gor Mahia’s Karim Nizigiyimana to have won an award in the KPL.

“My target has not changed. I want to do something with my team (Sofapaka) but I don’t want to overstay in the KPL. Ever since I was a kid, I always dreamt of playing in Europe or even north or South African leagues,” Omaru, who has 10 caps with the Burundi senior team told Goal in an exclusive interview.

Even though he didn’t make it to the list of nominees for the KPL Awards Gala last season, the defender who kicked-off his career in his native country with Amebu Stars said that his target is to ape the performance of his compatriot Nizigiyimana, who scooped the award in 2016.

“I would love to be the second Burundian to win any award in the KPL,” the former Burundi U-20 national team captain added.

Omaru shot to fame after he signed for AC Inter Star in the Burundian Premier League. He would later move to Flambeaux de L'est after one season in the top tier.
