Romania v Switzerland Betting: Side with the underdogs in Paris

When Romania coach Anghel Iordanescu said that coming away with nothing from their opening game against France "really hurt", it was easy to understand his sorrows.

The unfancied Romanians competed admirably with the hosts and tournament favourites on the opening night, creating chances and succumbing only to a late wonder strike from Dimitri Payet. Once the disappointment had faded a little, the manager would have been able to take heart from the performance and the largely unfancied side will come into their second game with belief that they can claim three important points.

For Switzerland, a win would assure their place in the knockout stages after their 1-0 win over Albania, yet the Swiss were not at their best on Saturday. Playing against an inexperienced side who were down to 10 men for nearly an hour, Vladimir Petkovic's side spurned some glorious chances while at the same time affording some great opportunities to Albania.

An improvement will be needed against a well drilled Romania side, yet Switzerland remain the favorites with bet365 at 11/8 (2.38)

Romania meanwhile can be backed at 12/5 (3.40) and it could be argued that they are a little overpriced. In qualifying for the tournament, Iordanescu's men had the best defence of any side, conceding just twice, while against France they were only undone by a goalkeeping error and piece of genius.

The Alpine nation were wasteful against Albania and they may get fewer opportunities against a resilient Romanian defence, meaning that the price of 6/5 (2.20) for Romania in the "Draw No Bet" market looks tempting. This bet will see stakes returned if the match ends level while still offering solid returns on the underdogs recording a victory.

If Romania can take their chances and surely they will be afforded some by the Swiss back four, then should be able to keep things tight at the back, so the "Draw No Bet" market could offer us some value.
