After over three years with Kedah, it looks like Tan Cheng Hoe's time with the Red Eagles is coming to an end. Having led Kedah to the promotion from the Premier League to the Super League culminating in the Malaysia Cup triumph last year, is it is surprise to see Tan being in hot demand.

Having previously served as assistant coach to K. Rajagopal in the national team, it looks like Tan will be resuming that role again - this time as the right-hand man of Mario Gomez. The president of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has already stated the Gomez wants Tan onboard and it now looks like it becoming a reality.

Rumours are rife that Tan has already submitted his resignation to the Kedah Football Association (FA) which would mean that he has taken up to the offer to becoming assistant coach for the Malaysia national team. That would leave the Kedah team in a lurch, as Tan has presided over their unbeaten start to the 2017 season.

In a statement released by FAM today, there will be a discussion between FAM and Kedah FA to negotiate an agreement. One which could see Tan being allowed to remain in-charge of Kedah at least until the end of the FA Cup competition.

Questions have been asked as to why Tan would accept the request to join the national set-up, having previously done the same appointment. It would look like a lateral move for the well-regarded Tan unless there has been another arrangment in stored for him.

Gomez isn't expected to be the long term solution for the national team and if Tan is being brought in to learn the ropes and to groom him to be the next head coach, then this move could still be classified as a positive one.

Yet, the one who will suffer the most from this move is undeniably - Kedah. The team at the moment are brimming with confidence and playing an attractive brand of football in their surge to the top of the Super League. The onus is on them to find the right replacement that can continue what Tan has instilled in the team but that itself may well proved to be a difficult task.
