Legendary ex-Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson & fan favourite Chicharito Hernandez exchange heartfelt messages as Mexican returns to boyhood club Chivas

Earlier on Wednesday, Javier Hernandez returned to his boyhood club Chivas as he joined the Liga MX side as a free agent. After the striker's move to the Mexican club was confirmed, his former manager at Manchester United, the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson wished him luck for his upcoming stint. In response, Hernandez thanked the manager and the Red Devils.

Manchester United released a clip of Ferguson on X where the 82-year-old said, "Chicharito. It's your old boss here. First of all, I want to congratulate you on your return to your old club, back to Mexico, where it all started. Where I found you, signed you, and you were a great, fantastic player for us. You've had a great career. I think now, when you go back to your old club, you have an opportunity to add your experience and give your experience to all the players there. So, regards to your family, have a great time and more goals to come. All the best.

In response, the striker wrote, "Boss, there’s no words to describe how much you mean to me. Being able to say I was one of your players is one of my biggest achievements. THANK YOU! And to my other family @ManUtd thank you for letting me be part of your history. Will love you forever. Once a red always a red."

The 35-year-old made his professional debut for Chivas in 2006 and spent four years at the club before Ferguson signed him at United. He spent the next five years at the Premier League club where he won multiple accolades. Chicharito later played for clubs like Real Madrid, West Ham and Sevilla before heading to the MLS to join LA Galaxy in 2020. Last June, the player suffered an ACL injury which cut short his stint with the American club.

Chivas, who started the new Liga MX season with a draw and a defeat in their first two matches, will next take on Club Tijuana on Saturday.
