San Jose Earthquakes striker Josef Martínez climbs to sixth on all-time MLS scoring list with a masterful hat-trick against DC United

Josef Martínez found the back of the net three times as the San Jose Earthquakes demolished D.C. United 6-1 at PayPal Park over the weekend. The Venezuelan striker opened his account in the 16th minute, added a second in the 81st, and completed his hat-trick in second-half stoppage time.

Martínez's hat-trick performance not only secured a crucial win for San Jose but also propelled him into sixth place on the MLS all-time scoring list with 118 goals. That puts him past Bradley Wright-Philips (117) and Ante Razov (114).

Martínez's hat-trick was his seventh in MLS, setting a league record. The performance highlights his enduring quality and importance to San Jose's attack.

With 120 goals in just 190 career appearances, Martínez continues to climb the all-time scoring charts, now sitting behind only Jaime Moreno (133) and Jeff Cunningham (134) before he can break into the top four.

MLS’ all-time leading goal-scorer, Chris Wondolowski, sits well ahead of Martinez with 171 goals.

Thanks to their 6-1 demolition of DC United, San Jose have now climbed up to eigth place on the Western Conference table with 10 points.

They sit six points behind Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps and face LAFC on the road next on April 12.
