Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney get Wrexham transfer message they don’t ‘want to hear’ as Hollywood co-owners receive Premier League promotion warning

A-list co-owners in North Wales have invested heavily in a shock sporting adventure that was first opened in 2021. They have overseen a historic run of three successive promotions that have lifted the Red Dragons out of the National League and into the Championship.

More recruitment records have been smashed in 2025, in an ongoing bid to reach the Premier League, but Phil Parkinson’s side have picked up just one point from three games at the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

Parkinson admits that he may need “one or two” more additions before the summer window closes, but questions are being asked of whether Wrexham should continue to throw money at a project that remains well ahead of schedule.

Jeff Stelling told talkSPORT of Parkinson’s transfer claims: “It's been this incredible uphill climb they've had but they've spent £23m in pre-season at the moment. That's just less than Inter Milan and manager Phil Parkinson admits the spending might not be over. Now, if I'm Ryan Reynolds or Rob McElhenney, those are not words I want to hear.”

Ex-Rangers and Sunderland striker Ally McCoist added, in a top-flight warning to Reynolds and McElhenney: “The climb and the ascent has to plateau out at some point. There's no way I could see them going all the way straight to the top flight. I think this season is the season that it's going to plateau. Then, from their point of view, they'd want to make the journey again and get to the top flight.

“There has to be a realisation. It's never just going to be climb, climb, climb, and you have to find a level. I think they've more than found it right now and results in this early stage of the season would indicate that.”

Reynolds and McElhenney have never shied away from the fact that they want to chase the dream and will do all they can to deliver tangible success. They are, however, aware that there will come a point in which the drama for ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ is dialled down somewhat.
