Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney to wield axe? Phil Parkison told when he could ‘lose his job’ as Wrexham sit just above the Championship relegation zone

On the back of three successive promotions, with the EFL history books being rewritten, Wrexham have found the going tough in the second tier of English football. They have picked up just four points and one victory through five games this season.

Questions are being asked of whether club legend Parkinson is the right man to guide the ambitious Welsh outfit towards the Premier League, with pressure mounting on the back of an elaborate £33 million ($45m) spending spree in the summer transfer window.

There is no suggestion that Hollywood co-owners Reynolds and McElhenney are planning an imminent change in the coaching department, having shown unwavering trust in Parkinson across the last four years, but the 57-year-old tactician knows that he needs to deliver a reversal in fortune on the field.

Ex-Wrexham manager Dean Saunders told WDW Bingo of the sack rumours: “If they don’t improve soon, Parkinson will lose his job, and that’s the reality of football, especially at such an ambitious club. It’s easy spending the money, it’s getting results after you have spent the money that is the difficult part. The squad needs a little bit more time to be allowed to gel before we can expect better performances and results from them. But you don’t always get time in football.”

Wrexham, who know that a couple of positive results will see them rise quickly up the Championship table, will be back in action on Saturday when taking in a trip to Norwich - with in-form USMNT striker Josh Sargent needing to be contained in order to get anything out of a visit to Carrow Road.
