Rob McElhenney wowed by 'great' Wrexham opponents as Phil Parkinson's side grind to 'tough' win in League One

A Ryan Barnett goal was the difference as Wrexham beat Mansfield 1-0 to cement their place in third in League One. It was a tough-fought game for the Welsh side, who scored just six minutes in and then had to withstand serious pressure from the visitors. Phil Parkinson's men managed to hold on and collect all three points, but the Stags would have been good value for the win themselves. McElhenney was in awe of Wrexham's opponents and took to X to praise them.

His post read: "Wow @mansfieldtownfc are a great club. Tough three points for the town. We’ll take it! @Wrexham_AFC."

Wrexham's win opened up a four-point gap between themselves and Mansfield. There are only two teams above the Hollywood club in League One now, Wycombe, who beat Wigan on the same day, and Birmingham, who could only draw to Northampton. The results leave Parkinson and Co four points away from top spot.

Next up for McElhenney's side is an EFL Trophy clash against League Two side Port Vale on Tuesday night. Following that, they will travel to Stockport for a match between two of the three promoted sides from last season.
