    WHAT HAPPENED?

The current National Women's Soccer League champions have revealed that Krieger, who retired in fairy tale fashion after their league triumph last season, will return to see her old side take on Kansas on Sunday. Along with signing autographs and taking pictures with fans during a pre-game meet and greet, supporters will receive a limited-edition bobblehead bearing the defender's likeness.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Krieger retired from the sport in late 2023, ending a glittering career. The 39-year-old racked up 108 caps for the USWNT, won two World Cups, an Olympic gold, and a host of trophies in the US and at Frankfurt. Now this tribute from her old club is a fitting way to honour this icon of the game.

Veteran Krieger - who also played for Orland Pride and Washington Spirit in her distinguished, 18-year career - has also played a major advocacy role in the bid for equal pay, LGBTQIA+ rights, and social justice.
