'It's not fair' - Kai Havertz suggests Arsenal 'deserved' Premier League title after being reduced to tears by Man City's final day success

On a day when the chance to win the Premier League stood outside their control, Arsenal did all they could as they took a 2-1 win over Everton thanks to Havertz's 89th-minute winner. However, Man City's 3-1 victory over West Ham meant the Gunners' efforts went in vain as they cruised to their fourth-straight Premier League title. After the match, the close call left Havertz in tears as the players learned that Pep Guardiola's side had won the title.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Havertz said [via The Sun]: "What can I say? I feel sorry for all the Arsenal fans, for us. We gave our best but it wasn't enough. Maybe in two or three months, we can say it was a good fight but right now I feel like we deserved more. It wasn't enough in the end but we go again next year.

"The comeback win against Everton? We showed again great character, they didn't make it easy for us. Since the first minute, they just played with the time - every throw, every ball they take time."

On losing the title late on: "My opinion is that sometimes it's not fair in football but we have to accept that football is hard. Hopefully, we can go again next year and give Arsenal fans what they need and what they are all here for. It's so frustrating - it's tough. Next year we'll be an even better team and give everything."

Havertz joined the Gunners last summer from local rivals, Chelsea amid a lot of criticism from fanbases of both clubs. The German had an underwhelming start to the season, however, he turned his form around as Mikel Arteta's men went toe-to-toe with Manchester City for the Premier League title. Regardless of the loss, the Gunners will have a lot of positives to take away from the season as they challenged Man City for the league title for the second straight season.

The 24-year-old will have another shot at glory this summer when he joins Julian Nagelsmann's Germany squad as they look to win the Euros as the host nation.
