Nightmare for Arsenal! Gabriel Jesus facing 'long spell out' as horror ACL injury suspected after clash with Man Utd's Bruno Fernandes

The Brazilian forward had to be stretchered off the pitch in the final moments of the first half in Arsenal's FA Cup clash against Manchester United on Sunday. The Athletic reports that Jesus could face a long time out due to a suspected anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture.

The report adds that the injury is to his left knee instead of the right, on which he had surgery in 2022. Jesus underwent scans on Monday, and further tests will be conducted on Tuesday morning to determine the extent of his injury and how long he will remain sidelined. The incident happened in the 38th minute of the third-round FA Cup tie when Jesus made a clumsy tackle on United captain Fernandes only to injure his knee. He was unable to continue and Raheem Sterling replaced him on the pitch.

Jesus' injury may force the Gunners to raid the transfer market in search of an extra attacking option. After elimination from the FA Cup, Arteta was asked if he would sign a new forward, to which he replied: "We missed from various ways, from different players. I understand you guys asking. I cannot love our players more. I focus very much on the ones that we have to perform at the highest level, that’s it. The rest is not in our hands, my hands."

Arteta's men will aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Wednesday night as they take on arch-rivals Tottenham in a crucial north London derby clash.
