Perhaps the most interesting development this weekend in MLS took place in GM's offices.
The transfer insiders have been busy of late, with MLS clubs making a flurry of moves before the Sept. 2 trade deadline. There hasn't been a singular massive blockbuster, but some clubs have certainly thrown their weight around. Sporting KC got rid of their best player in Dejan Joveljić on Saturday, shortly after trying to pinch NYCFC's for what would have been a record intra-league transfer fee when they attempted to acquire Nico Fernandez. St. Louis City SC did their bit, too, moving Eduard Löwen, another star with an uncertain future for the second time in 10 days.
And then there was the confirmed stuff. Atlanta United have switched one intriguing No. 9 for another, following Emmanuel Latte Lath's loan to Union Berlin by signing Swiss forward Breel Embolo for $18m - a significant outlay. Toss in the fact that Gini Wijnaldum (remember him?) could be on his way to Real Salt Lake, and you've got a weird few days of MLS.
As for the actual soccer, things have fallen into a bit of a pattern. No one quite has an answer for Nashville. Miami are as shaky as ever, with or without Messi. And it is never, ever, ever a particularly good time to be associated with Tottenham. GOAL looks at the Winners + Losers of the MLS weekend...
