Mikel Arteta launches passionate defence of 'impressive' Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya after woeful Luton display leads to calls for Aaron Ramsdale to replace him

Raya played in the Gunners' 4-3 win over Luton Town and was at fault for the second and third goals scored by the Hatters. The Spaniard moved from Brentford on loan to Arteta's side and immediately took over as their starting keeper over Ramsdale, much to the England international's disappointment.

Arteta said in a press-conference: "Maybe because of the debate, but I think when you look at his form and what he’s achieved since he’s been with us, it’s been really, really impressive. What can I say? I have three great goalkeepers. I’m really happy. I have great wingers. Some of them are on the bench but the questions are not related to them. I have to accept that. We have to support our players, protect them and get the best out of them. I focus more on that. All our players deserve the right love and support. He has had that for sure and will continue to."

Ramsdale is reportedly set to move away from the Gunners either in January or next summer. Chelsea, Newcastle, Wolves and Bayern Munich are among the clubs that have been linked with a move, as the 25 year old looks to nail down his spot in England's Euro 2024 squad.

Arsenal are said to have already rejected one bid from an unnamed Premier League club for Ramsdale. The Gunners travel to Aston Villa on Saturday, with Unai Emery's team riding a 14-game winning streak at home. Arteta will be hoping Raya cuts a more assured figure between the sticks at Villa Park.
