    WHAT HAPPENED?

Rashford claimed in an interview last month that it was time for a "new challenge" after he followed a disappointing 2023/24 campaign with another slow start in 2024/25. The forward has also been dropped by manager Ruben Amorim and has been heavily linked with a January exit. That fresh start could come in the form of a move to Adi Hutter's side, according to The Telegraph.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

A January move could suit all parties, with Rashford not featuring in any of United's last six matches. The England international has scored just seven goals in 24 appearances this term prior to his absence but could still appeal to some of Europe's big-hitters. Two years ago, he was in the middle of a run of 16 goals in 17 games after the 2022 World Cup.

    WHAT RASHFORD SAID

Last month, Rashford told Henry Winter: "Personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave, it's going to be, 'No hard feelings'. You're not going to hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's not me as a person."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD?

Rashford's wages are said to have prohibited some teams from making a move this month but the report states Monaco are confident of putting together a 'realistic package' to sign him in January. Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Barcelona are also interested in a player who faces a battle to restore his career to previous heights. A run of form could also see him force his way back into international reckoning, with new England head coach Thomas Tuchel due to select his first squad in March.
