Watch out Man Utd! Newcastle join race for Liam Delap and hope to convince £30m-rated striker by securing Champions League football

A report by The Telegraph has linked the Magpies with a summer for the 22-year-old. It is believed the club have been tracking Delap since his days at Man City's academy, and would be willing to make a move for the player who will be available for £30m thanks to a release clause should the Suffolk club be relegated.

Newcastle join a long list of suitors. Manchester United are heavily linked with Delap, while Chelsea, Spurs and Everton are also rumoured to be interested. The Magpies believe their ability to offer Delap Champions League football should give them the inside track. The club currently sit in fifth place with five games to go.

Delap has contributed to 14 goals in his full debut season in England's top flight. He's been involved in 42% of the Tractor Boys' league goals.

This Saturday's fixture between Newcastle and Ipswich could prove to be something of an audition for Delap. 15 points adrift from safety, and with five games left to play, the Tractor Boys need a miracle to stay up. The chase for the young striker's signature could start in earnest should Ipswich's relegation be confirmed this weekend.
