More bad luck for Man Utd! Lisandro Martinez limps off during West Ham clash - having only just returned from four-month injury layoff

The Argentine centre-back appeared to jar his right knee in a collision with Vladimir Coufal and momentarily left the field for treatment before returning to the pitch.

Clearly labouring as West Ham launched a quick counter attack, Martinez required attention again then made way for Raphael Varane as United closed out a comfortable 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

Martinez missed a four-month stretch of the season after suffering a foot injury in September, and United have looked a much steadier proposition in defence with the World Cup winner back in their ranks.

Fans will be hoping that the injury picked up during an otherwise bright performance by United will not keep Martinez on the sidelines for an extended length of time.

Martinez's September injury was the longest of his career so far having rarely missed a game in his spell with Ajax before his £47 million ($59.4m) move to Manchester. The Argentina international was one of United's star players are they finished third in the Premier League and lifted the Carabao Cup last season.

United's medical staff will have a free midweek to assess Martinez's knee and will be hoping to have their key defensive piece in place for the Red Devils trip to high-flying Aston Villa next Sunday. Erik ten Hag's side are now sixth in the league table, six points off the Champions League places.
