Aston Villa left INCREDULOUS by Man Utd's Emi Martinez loan bid as Ruben Amorim's side fail in attempt to land World Cup winner as potential Andre Onana replacement

The Daily Mail reports that United held discussions this weekend about signing the 32-year-old but their efforts to sign him on loan have been 'immediately rebuffed' by Unai Emery's side. The report adds that the prospect of an Old Trafford loan for the Argentine was put to Villa officials this weekend but it was met with 'incredulity'.

Villa are said to value the Argentine at around £40 million ($54m), which may be beyond the Red Devils' price range. United, on the other hand, have turned to Martinez as first-choice keeper Andre Onana is said to be ruled out for the start of the new Premier League season due to a torn hamstring. Doubts remain about whether the Cameroon international is up to the task at United after two mistake-ridden seasons but Martinez may not be the answer, either.

The two-time Yashin trophy winner, an award for the best goalkeeper in the world, has rejected interest from Saudi Pro League sides and at present is preparing for another season with Villa. He still has four years left on his contract so if he does go, it won't be on the cheap.

Former Arsenal keeper Martinez, who has been linked with United for a while now, has around six weeks to sort out his Villa Park future before the summer transfer window slams shut. The same could also be said for Onana at United. United are also reportedly looking at Antwerp’s Senne Lammen.
