Lothar Matthaus backs Bayern Munich to WIN Champions League this season as he predicts huge season for Harry Kane and co.

The German legend Matthuus has backed Bayern to win the Champions League this season, insisting Harry Kane and Vincent Kompany can lead the Bavarians to glory in Europe. Bayern started their campaign strongly by lifting the Franz-Beckenbauer-Supercup with a 2-1 win over Stuttgart.

Bayern dominated domestically last season with a 13-point Bundesliga lead, and their squad looks even stronger now with Kane, Luis Diaz and other stars in form. Matthaus believes the club has rediscovered balance and stability after years of turbulence under Nagelsmann and Tuchel, setting the stage for a serious tilt at European honours.

Record international player Matthaus is backing Bayern to enjoy a trophy-laden season, both domestically and in Europe. Speaking to kicker, the 1991 World Footballer of the Year tipped Bayern to not only dominate the Bundesliga but also go all the way in the Champions League: "If they stay injury-free, they can compete among the top four in Europe and win the Champions League."

The 64-year-old also dismissed any doubts about Bayern’s chances in the Bundesliga title race. For Matthaus, the domestic crown already looks decided given the quality of the squad and the momentum under new coach Vincent Kompany. "The question of who will be the German champion is easy to answer - clearly FC Bayern."

Bayern’s European journey will become clearer on August 28, when the Champions League draw takes place in Grimaldi Forum, Monaco. After falling short in the quarter-finals last season, Kompany’s side aim for a deeper run this time, with Matthaus convinced they have the talent and stability to go all the way.
