'He just killed James Maddison!' - Tottenham fans horrified by nasty injury to Spurs star as Premier League side left wondering Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper didn't get sent off for 'insane' challenge

After a slow start to their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt, Tottenham were slowly growing into the game with Maddison tugging at the strings for Ange Postecoglou's side. Just before half-time, Maddison was wiped out by Frankfurt's Santos with a clumsy challenge inside the Bundesliga side's box and the England international needed treatment for a head injury. After a brief VAR check, referee Davide Massa gave Spurs a spot kick, which was converted by Dominic Solanke, but did not send Santos off. Minutes later Maddison was subbed off due to his injury despite continuing on, and Spurs fans can't believe that the Frankfurt goalkeeper wasn't sent off.

Spurs fan @Robert_mac88 wrote on X: "Frankfurt keeper just killed Maddison and the referee thinks it’s fine. That’s insane, his speed, his force. It’s dangerous and reckless."

Maddison was subbed off by Postecoglou as the midfielder looked quite groggy but looked to be clutching the side of his abdomen, indicating that his injury could be more bodily impact-related, rather than a serious head injury. Dejan Kulusevski took the former Leicester City star's place on the field.

There has been no communication from Tottenham over Maddison's condition as the England star went straight down the tunnel. As such, it is likely that he will undergo tests to ascertain his fitness for the final part of the season.
