How Man Utd used Sky Sports pundits to overturn controversial Bruno Fernandes' red card against Tottenham

United captain Fernandes was sent off for the first time in his career for a foul on James Maddison during the Red Devils' 3-0 loss against Spurs at Old Trafford. However, the midfielder's suspension was overturned on appeal.

Former referee Dermot Gallagher and ex-players Sue Smith and Dean Ashton all criticised the decision to give the midfielder his marching orders on Sky Sports after the game, and the Daily Mail reports United used clips of their analysis as they looked to have the red card rescinded.

United's appeal was successful, but the independent commission reportedly ignored the pundits' views when it came to making their decision. Less than a week later, Fernandes was sent off again as United drew 3-3 with Porto in the Europa League.

Fernandes was back in the United starting XI for their 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at the weekend and will likely lead his team out of the tunnel for their clash against Brentford in the Premier League on October 19.
