Explained: Why Ferran Torres could be set to leave Barcelona with the January transfer window approaching

Moreover, it is believed that the relationship between Torres' agents and Barcelona's technical staff is strained due to past incidents, and the departure of Mateu Alemany, the former sporting director who signed the forward, further complicates the situation.

Despite scoring key goals against Cadiz and Villarreal in La Liga and against Porto in the Champions League, the player has fallen down the pecking order under Xavi. He has been a bench warmer in the recent games and despite Robert Lewandowski's failure to fire on all cylinders, Torres has not been a preferred starter.

Barcelona had clear intentions to offload Ansu Fati and Torres in the summer. While there was a solution for Fati, Torres remains with the team. During the pre-season, he had claimed that he feels "qualified to play for Barcelona" but things have panned out differently since then. His agents have always maintained that "we will leave here if the time comes" and it seems that an exit might be on the cards.

Torres feels that he needs more minutes under his belt in the second half of the season, especially with the Euros scheduled later in the summer of 2024. He has three goals and an assist in his last five appearances with La Roja and believes that he should seek a fresh challenge where he will be more regular to remain in the good books of Luuis de la Fuente. And certainly staying at Barcelona, with the impending signing of Roque, will not help his cause.
