'You are eradicating masculinity!' - Ex-Man Utd star Javier Hernandez embarks on shocking sexist tirade claiming women should focus on ‘multiplying, cleaning and maintaining the home'

In the inexplicable outburst, which was posted to Hernandez's 6.1 million Instagram followers, the Mexican striker launched into a series of strong opinions on what the role of women should be in society - as The Sun reports. The 37-year-old sent the internet into a frenzy with his sexist comments, which included a belief that women should focus on "multiplying, cleaning and maintaining the home".

Fans responded to Hernandez's comments, enraged, and rightly so. This controversy only serves to reflect the issues which still persist surrounding sexism in football and in the wider global society as a whole. This proves that the progress which has been made is not yet enough, and more must be done to educate sports stars and supposed 'role models' on the ideas they should express to the younger generation.

Hernandez said in the rant: "You are eradicating masculinity by making society hypersensitive. Embrace your feminine energy: nurturing, caring, receiving, multiplying, cleaning, maintaining the home, which is the most precious place for us men.

"Do not be afraid to be women, to allow yourselves to be led by a man who only wants to see you happy, because we do not know heaven without you. Holding yourselves responsible for your energy is also a way of loving you.

"Men, we are failing in the lack of commitment, putting our partners last, not keeping our word, and not prioritising habits to become admirable. I understand that we are afraid to speak and truly express what we feel because they are trying to eradicate masculinity, since in certain cases of the past, feminine energy was suppressed, but many of us are here wanting to love you, take care of you, respect you, and provide for you. But you women must learn to honour masculinity."

The backlash against Hernandez's words looks set to continue. The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy striker currently plays for Guadalajara in his native Mexico, but has only scored once in 18 Liga MX appearances in the 2025 season to date.
