Fernandez underwent surgery
Been out since April
Made low-key return for Argentina
WHAT HAPPENED?
Fernandez has been missing from Chelsea's squad since their humbling 5-0 defeat to Arsenal in April. He played 67 minutes in that game and then underwent surgery on a hernia issue, missing the final six league fixtures. Ironically, the Blues went unbeaten in that stretch, but will undoubtedly be boosted by the return of the £106m ($134m) signing.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Fernandez came off the bench early in the second half as Argentina beat Ecuador 1-0, replacing Lautaro Martinez. The 23-year-old, who was introduced alongside Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi, will hope to build his fitness up ahead of the Copa America after being included in Argentina's squad.
DID YOU KNOW?
Fernandez has won a total of 22 caps for Argentina, scoring four goals, since his debut in 2022. He has somewhat flattered to deceive at Chelsea in his debut campaign, though, as he contributed to just five goals, either by scoring or assisting.
