Aston Villa most expensive signings - How Premier League side spent £900 million on incoming transfers

After an underwhelming spell at Barcelona, Coutinho joined Aston Villa on loan in January 2022 in an attempt to revive his career, reuniting with former Liverpool team-mate and then manager Steven Gerrard.

Coutinho made his debut on January 15, scoring an equaliser against Manchester United in a 2-2 draw in the Premier League.

His impressive performances throughout the second half of the 2021-22 season saw him signed permanently for just £18 million from Barcelona in the summer window of 2022 in probably one of the greatest bargains of the transfer window.

Bent played for Aston Villa between 2011 to 2015 after joining from Sunderland in controversial fashion.

The attacker submitted a transfer request to Sunderland in January 2011 when Villa made a club-record £18 million bid for him, which was rejected.

The Birmingham giants then improved their offer to £19.35m, potentially rising to £24 million, which was accepted before Bent signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Villa.

Bent made 61 appearances for the club, scoring 21 goals.

Mings arrived at Aston Villa on loan from Bournemouth in January 2019, before signing permanently for them at the end of the season for £20m.

Ings signed a three-year contract with Villa in the summer of 2021, joining from Southampton after a successful spell with the Saints.

Villa paid £26.5m for his services and the English striker has been a regular up front ever since.

He scored a penalty on his debut for the club against Watford in August 2021, followed by a sumptuous bicycle kick in a 2-0 home win against Newcastle United.

After falling out of favour at Everton following an initially successful spell, Digne made the move to Aston Villa for £27m in the January transfer window of 2022.

He made his debut for Villa two days later in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

In August 2022, Digne scored his first goal for the Birmingham side in a 4-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Aston Villa signed him for £28.8m in the summer of 2021 and despite coming up with some decent performances, most of his first campaign in England was marred with injuries.

After impressive performances for Brentford, scoring 26 goals in 50 appearances, Aston Villa decided to break their transfer record in 2020 to sign Ollie Watkins.

Signed for £30.6m, he was their most expensive signing until Emiliano Buendia came along in 2021.

Watkins scored his first Premier League goals as part of a memorable perfect hat-trick in a 7-2 win over then reigning champions Liverpool in October 2020.

In the summer of 2021, Villa splashed £34.6m to lure Buendia away from Norwich in a club-record transfer.

Buendia made his debut for Villa in August 2021 in a 3-2 loss to Watford on the opening day of the season.

The Argentine scored his first goal for the club later that month in a 1-1 draw against Brentford and has since gone on to become an integral part of Villa's first team.
