'I talk to them, you can't - Arne Slot responds to Mohamed Salah transfer speculation following Liverpool star's social media post

Liverpool fans will be fearing the worst after Salah posted on Instagram following their win against Brighton at the weekend. In part of the post, he thanked the fans and said: "No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like." Many took this as a sign that he may not sign a new deal on Merseyside, which would mean he could leave as a free agent in the summer. But head coach Slot has had his say on the situation and snapped at the media for not understanding the full story.

Speaking ahead of the Reds' Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen, Slot said: "You interpreted in a way [that] maybe other people don't. I don't look at the Instagram posts of my players. I only talk to them, which you can't, so that is the advantage I have... Mo is in a very good place at the moment. As long as he has been here at Liverpool he has been in a very good place but this season again as well.

"I am hoping he will post one after tomorrow [against Leverkusen] and on Saturday again [against Aston Villa] and what he says with that for me is not important. The only thing that is important for me is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations and that's what matters and not how you guys interpret one of his posts."

Salah has been responsible for seven of Liverpool's 19 goals in the Premier League this season but also has five assists, meaning he has contributed to well over half. Even at 32 years old, he is still operating at an elite level and will surely have the option of staying at Anfield for a few more years.

Alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah completes a trio of elite players who could be playing for different clubs next term. But should Liverpool go on to win the league in Slot's first season, they may be handed a blank cheque.
