'Absolutely spineless decision' - Arsenal fans let rip after Gunners decide to give Premier League champions Liverpool guard of honour ahead of Anfield clash

Liverpool host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday after beating the Gunners to the Premier League title. The Reds have already been crowned champions and Mikel Arteta's side have decided to give their rivals a guard of honour ahead of kick-off, according to the Daily Mail. However, that decision has not gone down too well with supporters, who are unhappy with the gesture.

Supporter @Edz8S did not agree with the the move, posting on X: "Absolutely spineless decision."

The move is also a turn off for Gooner @phychem11 who wrote: "I won’t be watching that. No thanks."

Another supporter, @DoniMiller, added: "Pretty much because we are soft as a club and have no real intentions to win majors under these owners or manager."

And user @Pinnji41 wrote: "Yea i hope the whole first teams give them a guard of honour, hang their head in shame and come back stronger next season these f***ing lot need to learn something quick."

Supporter @josephheavens added: "Let's only raise our hands up in honor of@FA_PGMOLthanking them for gifting Liverpool the league."

Arsenal have already been told to ignore the tradition by Troy Deeney who described it as a "load of old b******s". The guard of honour is not mandatory but Arsenal are planning on marking Liverpool's title win as they view the guard of honour as "a mark of sportsmanship." The Gunner famously clapped Manchester United, and former striker Robin van Persie, onto the pitch in 2013 at the Emirates.

Liverpool have already received a guard of honour following their title win. Chelsea applauded the Reds onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and then went on to be Arne Slot's side 3-1.

Arsenal will hope to head into the match on a high by beating PSG and securing a spot in the Champions League final. The Gunners take on PSG on Wednesday in France and trail 1-0 from the first leg.
